Stephen Curry Shuts Down Draymond Green’s PGA Tour Talk With a Humble Reality Check

Stephen Curry spends his summers like a lot of NBA stars do—working on his golf game while the front office does the heavy lifting. But when his own teammate started floating the idea that Curry could actually play on the PGA Tour, the Warriors guard felt the need to set the record straight.

Draymond Green told a fan account on X that Curry “could real deal possibly be a professional golfer. He can definitely be a golf pro, no question.” That’s the kind of hype you’d expect from a guy who’s spent a decade throwing lobs to him. But Curry isn’t buying his own highlight reel on the course.

“I love Draymond; that’s why he’s such a great teammate,” Curry said, via NBC Sports’ Nate Ryan. “He’s hyping me up. I do have so much respect for how hard this game is and what you all do on the Tour week in, week out. There’s no even realistic shot that I’m going after a Tour card. But to see how good I can get when basketball is done, I kind of want to slowly and maybe without that shot say that I had a chance.”

That’s about as humble as a four-time champion gets. Curry has long been considered one of the best golfers in the NBA—he’s played in the American Century Championship, teed it up with pros, and generally looks like he belongs. But he also knows the difference between being the best athlete on a celebrity course and grinding for a paycheck on Thursday at Torrey Pines.

Green’s comment was probably meant as a joke. Or locker room banter. Or maybe he genuinely believes his guy can hang. Either way, Curry’s response was the right one: respect the game, know your limits, but keep chasing the dream on your own terms.

Meanwhile, the Warriors’ real offseason drama continues

While Curry is thinking about fairways and greens, the Warriors are still waiting on LeBron James. Reports have linked Golden State to the four-time MVP in free agency, though nothing has materialized yet. No one knows when LeBron will make his call, but the Warriors are clearly one of the teams hoping he picks up the phone.

For now, Curry is enjoying his summer. The golf swing is getting reps. The trade rumors are on hold. And Draymond is still talking him up, even if Curry isn’t buying it.
