Sandro Mamukelashvili Signed a $52 Million Lakers Deal. His Tattoo Says It All.

Sandro Mamukelashvili got the ink years ago, back when he was still at Seton Hall. A forearm tattoo that reads “Mamba Mentality,” a nod to Kobe Bryant. Now he’s about to find out if the tattoo was prophetic or just a really good guess.

The Lakers signed the 6-foot-10 forward/center to a four-year, $52 million contract, a move that adds size to a roster that’s been caught between competing windows. They’re trying to stay relevant without LeBron James on the floor, and Mamukelashvili is part of the answer they came up with.

According to Khobi Price of the California Post, Mamukelashvili didn’t need much convincing.

“Just the name itself — all of the legends play for the Lakers,” he said. “The organization is a very high-level organization. They’re starting a new page, and it’s just unbelievable to be part of it.”

He’s not wrong. The Lakers have had more icons than most franchises have had playoff appearances. But this isn’t the same Lakers that Kobe or Shaq or even LeBron walked into. This is a team searching for an identity, and Mamukelashvili seems to understand that.

“I could only imagine this really in 2K, that I would be playing for this team,” he said. “I’m so excited, so happy. The coaching staff is amazing, and I can’t wait to just put the jersey on, go out there and just play my heart out every night. You gotta have a chip on your shoulder when you play for the Lakers.”

From San Antonio to Toronto to L.A.

Mamukelashvili spent most of the last three seasons with the Spurs before playing for the Raptors in 2025-26. Over 80 games this past season, he averaged 11.2 points and 4.9 rebounds while shooting 39 percent from three. That’s the kind of stat line that gets you noticed when you’re 6-10 and can space the floor.

The Lakers are planning to use him as a stretch big who can rebound and hit outside shots. Nothing flashy, but valuable in a league that values versatility. They’re also hoping he can help lead the post-LeBron era, which is a lot to put on a guy who just signed his first big contract. But the front office thinks he’s ready.

Mamukelashvili seems to think so too. The tattoo is already there. Now he gets to prove it means something.
