LeBron James is taking his free agency tour through Yankee Stadium. But instead of meeting with a team, he was there for the music.

The 41-year-old showed up at Jay-Z’s ongoing concert series in the Bronx on Saturday night, and he wasn’t alone. Video posted by ClutchPoints showed LeBron dancing in all-black with white sneakers next to Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum. Two of the best players of their respective generations, just vibing to Hov.

This isn’t weird on its own. Tatum and James have a long relationship, going back to when Tatum was a kid at LeBron’s camps. But the timing is interesting. LeBron is a free agent. He told the Lakers nearly two weeks ago he’d be playing somewhere else next season. And here he is, hanging with a guy whose Celtics just won a title. Boston isn’t considered a serious landing spot for LeBron, but the image is something.

LeBron has always been a concert guy. He’s popped up at shows for Kendrick Lamar and Adele over the years. This free agency period, at least in public, he looks like a guy enjoying his summer more than a guy sweating over his next move. His social media has been light on basketball drama, heavy on music and family.

The free agency picture looks different now

The Golden State Warriors were the early favorites to land LeBron after he opted out. A LeBron-Stephen Curry pairing felt like a potential basketball fantasy come to life. But according to multiple reports, the dynamics have shifted. Cleveland, Miami and Philadelphia are now seen as more realistic options. The Cavs give him a homecoming narrative. The Heat offer Pat Riley and a winning culture. The Sixers have cap space and Joel Embiid.

Rich Paul, LeBron’s agent, has hinted at serious behind-the-scenes work. The decision involves fit, roster construction and who else would come along. This is probably the last contract of LeBron’s career. He’s not taking it lightly, even if he’s taking the downtime lightly.

As for Tatum, he’s an interesting side note here. He’s been spotted at plenty of concerts himself, and he’s never been shy about his appreciation for music and celebrity culture. Seeing him and LeBron laugh and dance together in a crowd of 50,000 just feels like a normal summer moment. No trade request. No tampering. Just two guys at a show.

The Celtics are not in the LeBron sweepstakes, at least not publicly. But if you squint, the visual of LeBron in Boston on a summer night with the guy who just beat his old team to win a ring is a little something. Probably nothing. But it’s something.
