Dylan Harper’s mom Maria goes viral after emotional on-court moment celebrating NBA Finals trip

The San Antonio Spurs are going to the NBA Finals after their Game 7 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder. As the Spurs rushed onto the court, Spurs’ Dylan Harper‘s mom had an emotional response to her son making it to his first NBA Finals during his rookie year.

After they shared an emotional embrace on the court, Maria Harper shared what she told her son during that moment.

“You go through all your life experiences,” she said. “Last year was a tough year; it all lines up for this.”

Harper was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft; his lone collegiate year at Rutgers was not an easy road traveled for the rising star. He had to overcome the flu midseason, which severely limited his minutes in several games.

However, he was still able to make an impact and work through the illness. He found his rhythm, which in turn made him a standout player on the Spurs. After his Game 6 performance, where he had logged 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists, his teammate Stephon Castle praised what he was able to accomplish in the must-win game for the Spurs.

“When he plays with confidence, I don’t think there’s anybody his age that is that good,” Castle said of the 20-year-old per Sports Illustrated. “He’s been a big part of our team all year long. We need him. When he plays like that, we’re pretty hard to beat.”

Victor Wembanyama, who won the Western Conference Finals MVP award, got emotional as they prepare for the big stage.

“I’m most excited about feeling what I felt when that buzzer went off again and again,” said Wembanyama who scored 22 points, and grabbed seven rebounds. “All these hours we put in, it’s for these types of emotions. I want to win so bad. It’s like my life depends on it.”

Now, the Spurs will be taking on the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals starting June 3 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
