Google Gave Erling Haaland a Viking Row Animation. He Had One Response.

Erling Haaland woke up, opened his phone, and saw that Google had turned his name into a full-blown Norse celebration. The striker’s reaction? He posted on X that he had exactly one thing to do that day: search his own name.

“One thing to do today… search my name on Google 😉,” he wrote.

Google added a custom animation to Haaland’s search results. When you type his name in, a little Viking character appears and does the Row — that traditional Norwegian celebration the whole team broke out after beating Brazil in the World Cup knockout stage. It’s been everywhere on social media since the game ended.

That win over Brazil was the kind of result that shifts how a country sees itself in soccer. Norway hadn’t qualified for the World Cup since 1998. Nobody expected them to make a run. But they got through the group stage, then took down a five-time champion in the round of 16. Haaland scored both goals in a 2-0 win that might be the biggest in Norwegian soccer history.

After the final whistle, Haaland grabbed the drum. Normally the Viking Row is led by the team captain, Martin Odegaard. But Odegaard handed the stick to his teammate as a tribute. The whole team sat behind him on the pitch. Thousands of Norwegian fans in the stands howled and rowed with every beat. It’s already one of the defining images of this World Cup.

Now Norway faces England in the quarterfinals. That’s another superpower with a deeper roster and higher expectations. But this Norwegian team has shown they can defend for long stretches and take the few chances they get. They did exactly that against Brazil. Haaland and company know they’ll need a similar defensive performance to get past England.

If they do pull it off, there will probably be another Viking Row. And you can bet Haaland will be the one leading it again.
