Sunderland Shuts the Door on Noah Sadiki. United’s Midfield Plan Takes Another Hit.

Manchester United’s summer midfield rebuild just hit another snag. And this time, it’s not about Real Madrid digging in or a rival club swooping in with a bigger check.

Sunderland has made its stance clear on Noah Sadiki. The Black Cats aren’t selling. Not this summer. Not to United. Not to anyone.

According to Teamtalk, the Championship side has directly informed the 21-year-old midfielder that he won’t be going anywhere. Sources confirm the club is fully aware of the growing interest around one of their most promising young players. Their response? A flat no.

A breakout year that grabbed attention

Sadiki exploded onto the scene last season after arriving at the Stadium of Light from Anderlecht. The Athletic’s Seb Stafford-Bloor called him a “properly complete midfielder” at the time of his move, and the kid backed it up. Box-to-box. Relentless. Carries the ball like he’s being chased. Bites in defensively. He looked like a Premier League midfielder playing in the second division.

United’s scouts noticed. INEOS had him on a list of potential targets to round out what’s shaping up to be a significant midfield overhaul. But that list is shrinking fast.

Andrey Santos is close to being confirmed. Ederson should follow if his medical goes smoothly. That’s two. The third piece was always going to be the tricky one.

Aurelien Tchouameni was never really an option. Real Madrid made that clear early. Mateus Fernandes and Elliot Anderson both slipped away. And now Sadiki, the young midfielder who looked like he could be the budget-friendly third man in this rebuild, is off the table too.

Sunderland’s position is absolute. They’ve watched Sadiki develop into one of the Championship’s most dynamic midfielders. They know what they have. And they’re betting he’s worth more to them on the pitch next season than whatever a transfer fee would bring in.

That leaves United scanning the market for alternatives. Manu Kone is still out there. Alex Scott too. Both intriguing options. But neither comes with the same momentum Sadiki built last year.

INEOS still has time. The window isn’t closing tomorrow. But the list of realistic targets is getting shorter, not longer, and every dead end puts more pressure on getting the deals that are still alive to actually close.
