Manchester United Reportedly Set to Make First Move for Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha

Manchester United is ready to make the first formal approach for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, according to Sky Germany. Recruitment chief Christopher Vivell has been in regular contact with the player’s camp, and the club sees him as a priority target heading into the summer window.

But United isn’t the only team watching closely. Manchester City, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are all monitoring the 25-year-old’s situation. The Premier League is considered a realistic destination for the Germany international at some point, though exactly when that happens is still up in the air.

Nmecha’s Current Focus

For now, Nmecha is content at Dortmund. He’s fully locked in on the World Cup under Julian Nagelsmann and isn’t pushing for a move midseason. That said, the club is planning to move him into the salary bracket previously occupied by Niklas Süle as the new season kicks off — a sign they value him but also maybe a signal they’re preparing for an eventual departure.

Vivell’s relationship with Nmecha’s representatives is key here. United has been burned before in transfer negotiations by moving too slowly or too publicly. This time, they’re trying to get ahead of the pack by making the first real offer and seeing if Dortmund bites.

Dortmund has a history of selling big when players want out — Haaland, Bellingham, Sancho — but they also drive a hard bargain. Nmecha isn’t at that superstar level yet, but he’s a versatile midfielder who can play as a deep-lying playmaker or push higher up the pitch. That versatility is exactly what United’s midfield has been lacking.

What United Needs

Erik ten Hag’s squad has been crying out for a midfielder who can actually progress the ball through the middle without losing possession every third pass. Nmecha fits that profile. He’s calm on the ball, reads the game well, and has the physical frame to handle Premier League contact.

The question is whether United can close the deal before City or Real Madrid step in with something flashier. City tends to move quietly until they’re ready to pounce. Real Madrid, well, they’re Real Madrid. If they want someone, they usually get them.

Nmecha’s contract situation at Dortmund isn’t dire — he still has time left — but the new salary bump suggests the club is either rewarding him or positioning him for a bigger sale. Either way, United’s first move is coming. Soon.
