Real Madrid’s Midfield Shuffle Could Open a Door for Manchester United

Real Madrid is staring at a roster problem that won’t solve itself. The club has too many midfielders and not enough room for all of them. Something has to give. And according to reports, the first domino might be Eduardo Camavinga.

The 23-year-old Frenchman made 43 appearances last season but only started 23 of those. That’s not what you’d expect from a player who arrived with so much promise. New manager José Mourinho and the Madrid front office are reportedly open to listening to offers, per The Athletic. But here’s the thing: Camavinga’s camp says a move is basically “impossible.” He’s under contract until 2029 and apparently has no interest in leaving.

That complicates things for Madrid. They need to free up a midfield spot to bring in a more creative player, someone who can unlock defenses. If Camavinga won’t go, the club might have to look somewhere else.

Tchouaméni Could Be the One Who Goes

That somewhere else might be Aurélien Tchouaméni. The 26-year-old French international started 45 of 49 matches last season and was a regular in the lineup. But it wasn’t all smooth. He had a dust-up with teammate Federico Valverde that reportedly ruffled feathers in the locker room. Is that enough to get him shipped out? Probably not on its own. But combined with the numbers crunch and Madrid’s desire to shake things up, it could tip the scales.

Manchester United is paying close attention. The club has Tchouaméni on its list of summer targets, according to reports. United needs midfield help and Tchouaméni fits the profile: strong defensively, good on the ball, and still young enough to be a long-term piece. He’s not the flashy creative type Madrid wants to add, which actually works in United’s favor. If Madrid decides to move him, there’s a ready-made buyer.

What Happens Next Depends on Camavinga

This whole situation is basically a waiting game. If Camavinga changes his mind and agrees to leave, Tchouaméni stays. But if Camavinga digs in, Madrid has to decide whether to force the issue or pivot. Given Mourinho’s history, he’s not the type to let sentiment get in the way of a roster move he wants. The Portuguese coach has never been afraid to move on from players who don’t fit his plan.

Tchouaméni’s value is still high. He’s a starter for France and a proven performer at the highest level. United would get a player who can step in and start right away. The question is whether Madrid is willing to sell a guy who played almost every game last season just to make room for a different kind of midfielder.

The transfer window is open and things can move fast. United’s interest is real. Madrid’s need is real. The only real unknown is which Frenchman ends up packing his bags.
