Tyler Adams is making a lot of people look smart right now. The U.S. international spent most of last season shaking off injuries and reminding everyone why he was such a hot prospect in the first place. And now both Chelsea and Manchester United are seriously considering a summer move for the Bournemouth midfielder, according to multiple reports.

The numbers tell part of the story. Adams is one of those guys who doesn’t show up much on a highlight reel but absolutely lives in the space between opponents’ passes. His pressing numbers are elite. United’s analytics people have internally compared some of his output to Rodri at Manchester City, which is a wild thing to say out loud but apparently the data backs it up.

Here’s where it gets interesting from a business standpoint. Bournemouth would entertain offers around £30 million for Adams, per CaughtOffside. Compare that to Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, who could fetch north of £80 million this summer. Adams is under contract until 2028 and the Cherries aren’t desperate to sell. They don’t need the money. But a bid in that range would at least get them talking.

United’s interest makes a ton of sense. Casemiro is gone and the midfield needs legs. The club has been looking at Mateus Fernandes at West Ham but his price tag is steeper. Adams fits the profile as a cheaper option who can do the dirty work. He’s relentless, he breaks up play, and he’s still only 26. That’s a profile that ages well in the Premier League.

Chelsea’s history with Adams goes deeper. They nearly signed him in 2023 before he ended up at Bournemouth. The Blues have kept tabs on him ever since and are now reassessing their midfield depth. There’s a genuine admiration there that never fully went away.

Liverpool is the wild card in all this. New manager Andoni Iraola knows Adams from their time together at Bournemouth. That connection is real and could matter if Liverpool decides to enter the race. Iraola has a history of getting the best out of him and may see Adams as a plug-and-play piece for his system.

Don’t expect anything to happen before the World Cup though. Adams has been a fixture for the USMNT during their home soil friendlies, putting in strong performances against Paraguay and Australia. The co-hosts are rolling right now and he’s a big part of that. Any club that wants him will have to wait until after the tournament. And maybe pay a little more if he keeps playing like this.
