Knicks Fans Traveled to Abu Dhabi for Preseason Games — Now They’re Taking Over San Antonio for the Finals

Karl-Anthony Towns has seen a lot in his NBA career. But even he admits he wasn’t ready for what Knicks fans have done during this playoff run — not just at Madison Square Garden, but thousands of miles from home.

As New York prepares for Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night, the Knicks are one win away from their first championship since 1973. And if the first two games in Texas are any indication, Frost Bank Center will feel a lot like MSG South.

“Yeah, it was a wild experience to be on the road and feel like it was a home game,” Towns said, via SNY Knicks on X. “Knicks fans are amazing, our fans really bring it every single game, regardless of where it’s at.”

The big man wasn’t done. He pointed to a trip many might have forgotten — Knicks preseason games against the Philadelphia 76ers in Abu Dhabi — to illustrate just how deep the fan commitment runs.

“I didn’t know I would still have that same experience in Abu Dhabi in the preseason, and they flew all the way out there too and made it known that it was going to be a home game wherever we go in the world,” Towns said. “Our fans are special, man. And they bring so much love, energy, and support.”

The Knicks’ Game 4 comeback was the kind of win that builds legends. The team erased a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter, riding a mix of clutch shots and defensive stops to seize a 3-1 series lead. Now, the stage is set for a closeout game in enemy territory — territory that, for a few hours at least, might not feel so hostile.

This isn’t just a feel-good story about traveling fans. It’s a reflection of how far this iteration of the Knicks has come. After decades of mediocrity, the organization has built a roster capable of winning at the highest level, and the fanbase has responded with a fervor rarely seen outside of the postseason. The team has not confirmed exact ticket sales figures for Game 5, but reports indicate secondary market prices are soaring as Knicks fans snap up seats in bulk.

Tip-off is set for Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET. If the Spurs manage to force a Game 6, the series would shift back to New York on Tuesday. But if Towns and company have their way, they’ll be raising the Larry O’Brien Trophy on the road, with thousands of blue-and-orange-clad fans roaring them home.
