Bulls’ Caleb Wilson Set to Play While Jazz Rest Darryn Peterson in Summer League Matchup

The marquee matchup NBA fans were circling on their Summer League schedules just lost some of its luster. Caleb Wilson and Darryn Peterson won’t face off Monday night when the Chicago Bulls take on the Utah Jazz in Las Vegas. The Jazz decided to sit Peterson after he averaged 28 minutes across three games in Salt Lake City, according to Will Gottlieb of CHGO Bulls.

Peterson, the No. 3 pick in the 2026 draft, has been a two-way force through four Summer League games. But Utah is playing the long game. Rookie minutes management in July? That’s how you keep guys healthy for October. The Jazz also held out Cody Williams and Ace Bailey for Monday’s contest.

Wilson, meanwhile, will be on the floor. The No. 4 pick dropped 35 points in his Bulls debut against Memphis on Friday, a 97-96 loss that came down to the final possession. Chicago is 0-1 in Vegas after that one-possession heartbreaker. The Jazz come in at 0-2 in Las Vegas play, though they went a perfect 3-0 during the Salt Lake City slate.

Last Time Wilson and Peterson Shared a Court

The last head-to-head between these two was November 7, 2025. North Carolina hosted Kansas in Chapel Hill in what felt like a preview of lottery night. The Tar Heels trailed 37-29 at halftime, then absolutely blitzed the Jayhawks in the second half, outscoring them 57-39 to win 87-74.

Wilson posted a season-high 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Peterson led Kansas with 22 points of his own. For the season, Wilson averaged 19.8 points and 9.4 boards. Peterson put up 20.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Both are consensus All-American types, but March Madness was unkind to both programs. North Carolina lost to VCU in the first round. Kansas got bounced by Arkansas in its opener.

So the college chapter ended earlier than either guy wanted. Summer League is where the next chapter begins, even if they’re not writing it on the same night.

What Monday’s Game Still Offers

Wilson’s the main attraction now. He’s shown he can score in bunches against NBA-level athletes, and the Bulls need to see if he can be something more than a bucket-getter. His rebounding carries over from college, but Summer League is where you test the stuff that doesn’t show up in box scores. Can he guard on the perimeter? Make the second read on offense?

Peterson will have to wait for his next turn. The Jazz are clearly treating him with kid gloves, which is smart for a franchise that’s been collecting young talent like infinity stones. Whether he plays again in Summer League hasn’t been confirmed by the team, but sitting him Monday suggests they’re not rushing anything.

Tipoff is at 7:00 PM CST, 8:00 PM EST at the Thomas and Mack Center. Wilson will be out there. Peterson won’t. The debate over who’s the better rookie will have to wait at least a few more months.
