Ben Stiller Lost It Over Landry Shamet’s New Knicks Deal and the Reaction Is Perfect

Ben Stiller is not subtle about being a Knicks fan. He never has been. And when news broke that Landry Shamet locked in a new four-year, $24 million deal with New York, Stiller let the world know exactly how he felt.

“LET’S GO!!!!!!! WE LOVE LANDRY,” the actor wrote on X, formerly Twitter. No filter, no irony. Just pure fan energy from a guy who has been waiting 53 years to watch his team win a title and then watch a key role player get paid.

The deal was first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania on Monday. Shamet’s agent, George S. Langberg, worked it out with Knicks executives, and the guard is staying in New York long-term. Four years. $24 million. A reward for being one of those guys who doesn’t fill up a box score but does fill a specific role — especially from deep.

And let’s be real, that shooting mattered. During the Knicks’ run to their first championship since 1973 — when they beat the San Antonio Spurs in five games — Shamet wasn’t the star. But he was the kind of player defenses couldn’t ignore. He averaged 9.3 points this past season, shot 43.7 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from three-point range on 5.2 attempts per game. That’s not accidental. That’s a guy spacing the floor for Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle to operate.

Stiller has been a fixture at Knicks games for years. Courtside. Reacting. Sometimes getting roasted for his takes. But this season was different. He got to see the trophy come back to Madison Square Garden. And now he gets to see one of the guys who helped make that happen stick around.

It’s easy to roll your eyes at celebrity fandom. But this one feels earned. Stiller has been through the bad years. The Isiah Thomas years. The losing. The hope that never quite turned into anything. So when he posts in all caps about Landry Shamet getting $24 million, it’s not performative. It’s what happens when a lifelong fan watches his team finally get it right.

Shamet is 27. He’s been around the league — Philly, the Clippers, Brooklyn, Phoenix, and now two seasons in New York. He’s not a guy who’s going to make an All-Star team. But he’s a guy who makes winning teams better. The Knicks clearly agree. And so does their most famous fan.
