Real Madrid Pushes Camavinga Toward Exit. Man City Has a Decision to Make.

Real Madrid has made Eduardo Camavinga available this summer, and Manchester City is one of the clubs getting a serious look. According to reports from Marca, the Spanish giants have directly offered the French midfielder to City as part of a broader squad overhaul in Madrid.

Camavinga, 23, had a rough season in La Liga. His minutes dipped, his form wavered, and the front office in Madrid apparently decided he’s no longer part of the long-term plan. That’s a sharp turn for a player who arrived from Rennes in 2021 with huge expectations and who’s already won two Champions League titles and two league trophies with the club.

City’s interest makes sense when you look at their midfield situation. Bernardo Silva’s exit leaves a hole. Rodri’s future has been the subject of quiet chatter. Mateo Kovacic isn’t getting any younger. And while City just agreed to a massive £116 million deal for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, the front office still wants another midfielder in the door this window.

Enzo Maresca’s side has been scouting heavily. They’ve tracked Lille teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi, who turned heads at this summer’s World Cup. Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez is also on the radar. But Fernandez would cost serious money — way more than Camavinga probably would, given Madrid is actively shopping him.

That’s the appeal of this deal. Madrid wants to sell. City needs another body. Direct talks have already happened, according to reports, and José Mourinho — now in charge at Madrid — is ready to sign off on a transfer if the price is right.

Camavinga has made 223 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid. He’s versatile. He can play deep or box-to-box. He’s still young enough to develop into something more. But last season raised questions about whether he fits what Madrid wants to build next. The club is refreshing its squad, and Camavinga is one of the pieces being moved out.

For City, this could be a relatively straightforward signing. No bidding war. No long negotiation. Just a club that wants out and another club that needs a midfielder. Whether Pep Guardiola sees Camavinga as a starter or a rotation piece is another question. But the door is open.

And if City doesn’t pull the trigger, someone else probably will. At 23, with his resume and a reasonable asking price, Camavinga isn’t going to sit on the market long.
