Real Madrid has made its mind up on at least one of its French midfielders. According to Ramon Alvarez de Mon, a Radio Marca reporter with over 311,000 followers on X, the club is planning to keep Aurelien Tchouameni but is open to selling Eduardo Camavinga this summer. That’s bad news for Manchester United, which has been chasing Tchouameni hard, but good news for Liverpool, which has Camavinga on its shortlist.
Jose Mourinho wants to revamp Madrid’s midfield. The manager has already added Bernardo Silva on a free transfer from Manchester City, and Dani Ceballos is gone. Next on the list is Enzo Fernandez, but Chelsea wants around £120 million for him. To make that kind of money, Madrid has to sell someone.
Tchouameni and Federico Valverde have reportedly been clashing in training. There was talk both could go. But de Mon insists Madrid is counting on Valverde, Tchouameni, Arda Guler, Bernardo Silva, and Jude Bellingham for next season. The odd man out? Camavinga. The reporter wrote that Camavinga is the only one who might leave if a suitable offer arrives. But he added a catch: the player has to change his current stance of wanting to stay and fight for his spot.
Camavinga still believes he can turn things around under Mourinho. But the club and president Florentino Perez are reportedly fine with moving him. Madrid would entertain offers around €50 million, which works out to roughly £43 million. That’s a strong price for a 23-year-old midfielder with his talent and Champions League experience.
Liverpool has been linked with a few other midfielders too. Adam Wharton at Crystal Palace, Kaishu Sano at Mainz, and Khephren Thuram at Juventus are all names in the mix. But Camavinga might be the best of the bunch, and at that price, he’s a legit option.
On the Tchouameni side, there are conflicting reports. Fabrizio Romano has said Madrid hasn’t opened the door for United yet. Andy Mitten said on the Talk of the Devils podcast that Tchouameni is happy at Madrid but would join United if the clubs agreed on a deal. Dean Jones has said Madrid is warming to the idea of selling him. AS reported earlier this week that United is ready to put serious money on the table. And both AS and Mundo Deportivo claim United has offered Tchouameni a five-year contract and is preparing a bid over €100 million.
So the picture is messy. Two different journalists saying two different things. But de Mon’s update is the most recent from a Madrid-focused source. If he’s right, United’s chase for Tchouameni hits a wall, and Liverpool gets a clear path to Camavinga. For a reasonable fee.
