PSG Wants $163 Million for a Winger Who Isn’t Even a Starter. Manchester United Is Watching.

Manchester United is hunting for a statement signing this summer, but the club keeps running into the same problem: they don’t want to overpay, and the market isn’t cooperating.

They missed on Aurelien Tchouameni, who just agreed to extend at Real Madrid. They’ve been linked with budget midfield options like Ederson and Andrey Santos. So now the rumor mill has shifted to the attack. Specifically, to a 23-year-old winger at Paris Saint-Germain who doesn’t start every game but could cost over $160 million.

According to TEAMtalk, Bradley Barcola’s camp is actively pushing for a move this summer. Liverpool is reportedly the frontrunner, but United, Manchester City, and Chelsea have all been kept in the loop. PSG wants to sit down with Barcola after the World Cup and try to talk him into staying. If he says no again, the report says the club would reluctantly consider selling him.

Here’s where it gets tricky for United. The asking price is believed to be around 150 million euros, which is about $163 million. That would break the British transfer record. And we’re talking about a guy who has elite potential but hasn’t locked down a starting spot at PSG. Ineos, United’s ownership group, has been cautious with spending so far. Paying that kind of money for a non-starter feels like a hard sell.

Barcola has two years left on his deal. He’s slipped in the pecking order in Paris, and he wants to see what else is out there. That’s a reasonable position. But the price tag suggests PSG isn’t exactly eager to let him go cheap. They’re in a weird spot — they don’t want to lose him, but they might not have a choice if he refuses to sign a new contract.

Meanwhile, United is also keeping tabs on another PSG youngster, Ibrahim Mbaye. He’s a Senegal winger valued around 35 million euros, and he’s reportedly thinking about leaving for similar reasons. That’s a more Ineos-sized price tag.

For now, the Barcola situation feels like a staring contest. United wants a big name, but they don’t want to get rinsed. PSG wants to keep him or cash in big. Something’s got to give, but nobody’s blinking yet.
