AC Milan is shopping for fullbacks this summer and has started poking around Noussair Mazraoui, the Moroccan defender who played under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United. According to Matteo Moretto, the interest is real but still in the early stages. No direct contact between the clubs yet.
Mazraoui is under contract at Old Trafford through 2028 with an option year. He moved from Bayern Munich to United in 2024 for €15 million and has logged 77 appearances with 3 assists. He came up through Ajax’s system. Milan likes the profile but hasn’t decided whether to actually bid or move on to other targets.
Estupinan Could Be Out After One Year
Here’s the interesting part. If Milan does push for Mazraoui or another right back, it might be because they’re already planning to move Pervis Estupinan. The Ecuadorian arrived just a year ago for €20 million but the club is open to selling him. Aston Villa has shown interest. Milan would ideally get a similar fee back, maybe a bit less.
That’s a quick flip for a guy they just invested in. But the roster math makes some sense if they can land a more natural fit for Amorim’s system.
Other Names on the List
TuttoSport reports that Milan is specifically looking for a right-footed fullback. Amorim might push Alexis Saelemaekers over to the left side, which opens up room on the right. They’re also competing with Inter for Guéla Doué and have offered him a five-year deal worth €2.5 million per season.
If those moves get complicated, there’s a cheaper option in Rafik Belghali. He’s been offered around Serie A after Verona got relegated and carries a €15 million price tag. Not a star but solid depth.
Milan also has Davide Bartesaghi as a perfectly fine rotational piece and Zachary Athekame showed he can be an okay backup last season. So this isn’t a crisis-level need. But if Estupinan leaves and they want to avoid losing money on the deal, they’ll need to bring someone in.
One more thought from the rumor mill: if Milan really wants to go all-in on inverted fullbacks — every wing player cutting onto their strong foot — they might target Diego Moreira from Doué’s club. Moreira is more attack-minded and could give them a completely different look on that flank.
