Manchester United Push Back on Claims Ederson Deal Is Dead

Manchester United are pushing back hard against reports that they’ve pulled the plug on the Ederson transfer. The club is denying the rumors that a deal for the Atalanta midfielder is off, according to Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas.

The story started when Fabrizio Romano reported that United had walked away from the 27-year-old after agreeing terms with the Serie A side. Apparently an issue came up during Ederson’s medical tests, and the club supposedly changed course. But United is currently saying that’s not the full picture. They insist the process is still active and no final call has been made.

This isn’t some minor saga either. United’s midfield is in rough shape. Casemiro is gone. Manuel Ugarte picked up a long-term injury while on World Cup duty with Uruguay. So strengthening that area of the pitch was supposed to be priority number one this summer.

It just hasn’t gone well.

They walked away from talks for Elliot Anderson after Nottingham Forest demanded way too much money. Then they lost out on Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham, who agreed to meet West Ham’s £85 million asking price. At that point, Ederson looked like the guy who would finally get it done. United and Atalanta had a deal. But now that feels shaky at best.

The transfer window opened June 15

United still hasn’t made a single signing. That’s a rough look for a club that knew exactly what it needed before the window opened. The good news is they’re expected to announce Andrey Santos soon. He’s already done his medical after a £50 million agreement with Chelsea. So that could be wrapped up in the coming days.

But for now, the Ederson situation is a mess of conflicting reports. United says it’s not over. Everyone else seems to think it is. We’ll see who’s right.
