Lucas Perri might have to wait a little longer for his ticket out of Leeds United. Because Torino has someone else in mind first.
The Italian club’s ultimate dream target is Paraguay international Orlando Gill, not the Brazilian currently stuck on Leeds’ bench. That’s according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, which reported that Gill is the clear priority for the Serie A side. And that should worry Perri if he was hoping for a quick exit.
Perri arrived at Leeds from Lyon last summer for €15 million after the club won promotion from the Championship. He started the season as Daniel Farke’s No. 1 and looked solid early on. But then his form dipped. Farke stuck with him publicly, talking about areas where Perri needed to improve. It didn’t matter. Eventually the manager turned to Wales international Karl Darlow, who played so well that Perri never got his job back.
Now the summer window is open and Perri’s situation is getting messy. Leeds wants to bring in a new starting goalkeeper. Their target is Parma’s Zion Suzuki. So Perri is essentially third on the depth chart in his own head, even if the club hasn’t said it outright.
Leeds is reportedly asking for at least €12 million to let him go. That’s a discount from what they paid. But Torino would rather spend €9 million on Gill, whose release clause makes him cheaper and whose performances at the 2026 World Cup for Paraguay have turned heads. Even Aston Villa is sniffing around Gill, according to reports.
Torino’s preference leaves Perri in limbo
If Torino lands Gill, Perri loses one of his more logical landing spots. A move to Serie A made sense for him. He’d get a fresh start in a league that values goalkeepers. He’d be their No. 1. But now he’s waiting on someone else’s decision.
There was some talk in January about Turkish interest, with Besiktas linked. Nothing came of it. Now the summer window is moving fast and Perri still has three years left on his Leeds contract. That gives the club leverage but also complicates things if Perri really wants out.
Here’s the thing about Leeds’ goalkeeper room: it’s basically empty. Darlow is out of contract. Illan Meslier already left as a free agent. So if Perri gets sold, Leeds might need to bring in three goalkeepers this summer. That’s a lot of turnover for one position group.
Perri doesn’t want to sit again. That’s clear. But whether he actually gets moved depends on Torino (or someone else) deciding he’s worth the money and the wait.
