Free agency kicks off Tuesday night, and the Chicago Bulls have a real to-do list. Days after grabbing Caleb Wilson at No. 4 in the draft, they’ve got eyes on Miami Heat guard Norman Powell as a signing target. But that’s not the only name floating around.
Joe Cowley reported that Cleveland’s Max Strus is worth watching too. Strus has one year left at $16.6 million with the Cavs, who are sitting in the second apron. And word is, he’s always wanted to be a Bull. Strus missed most of this past season for Cleveland before returning for a rocky playoff run that ended in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Then there’s Jonathan Kuminga. Marc Stein and Jake Fischer wrote on Stein’s Substack that Chicago is expected to show interest in him after Atlanta declined his team option Monday. Kuminga couldn’t find a workable trade before that deadline, so he’s now a free agent. He landed with the Hawks via a trade from Golden State last year and had an up and down stay there. But for a rebuilding Bulls team looking toward the future, he fits the timeline.
The Bulls still need frontcourt help, no doubt. But they’ve got options on the wings. Between a possible Max Strus trade, chasing Norman Powell in free agency, and kicking the tires on Jonathan Kuminga, Chicago is casting a wide net. The next few days should tell us which direction they’re really leaning.
