Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski isn’t sounding the alarm despite the arm fatigue that pushed back his scheduled start last weekend. Speaking with reporters at the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday, the right-hander struck a confident tone about returning to the mound soon after the break.
“Feel good,” Misiorowski said, via Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Yeah, ready to go for the second half.”
The Brewers bumped his Sunday start as a precaution, but they’ve also been busy working on a trade with the Houston Astros to bring in Lance McCullers Jr. That’s what teams do when their ace has even a whiff of uncertainty around his arm — they stockpile depth. But Misiorowski isn’t treating this like anything serious.
“Gonna go back home and get some treatment from our trainers,” he said. “Work out, get ready for whatever game they decide I’m gonna throw. Nothing too crazy.”
When asked which game that might be, Misiorowski wasn’t committing to a specific slot. But he didn’t rule out being back for the first game after the break either.
“First game, second game, third game, fourth game, fifth game, somewhere in there, I don’t know.”
That sounds like a guy who expects to be pitching within the first week of the second half, barring any setbacks. The Brewers will take it. Because when Misiorowski is healthy, he’s been the best pitcher in baseball this season.
A Cy Young push is coming
Misiorowski leads the majors with a 1.62 ERA across 18 starts. He also tops the league with 167 strikeouts and has tossed a shutout. Those numbers don’t just look good on a stat sheet — they put him in the driver’s seat for the National League Cy Young Award if he keeps this up.
The Brewers have been careful with him all year. That’s why they pushed that start back. That’s why they’re bringing in McCullers. But Misiorowski himself seems to want back on the mound as soon as possible, and based on how he’s throwing, you can see why.
He’ll head back to Milwaukee for some treatment and ramp back up. The exact return date isn’t set yet, but the guy who’s been untouchable all season sounds ready to pick up right where he left off.
