James Corden has a new gig as a World Cup analyst for Fox. And apparently, he also has a crush on England manager Thomas Tuchel.
During a segment on Tuesday night’s “Fox After Hours” show, the former late-night host went all in on calling Tuchel a full-blown sex symbol. He cited a recent story from The Telegraph with the headline: “‘Tough love’ Tuchel has British women swooning. Who can blame them?”
Corden did not let that sit on the table quietly. He picked it up, ran with it and basically proposed to the guy on national television.
“And who indeed? Because you’ve gotta admit, little Tommy T, he’s a vibe,” Corden said.
Then the network cut to a montage of Tuchel looking stern on the sideline. With a jazzy saxophone playing in the background. The whole thing was cringe, and it was clearly designed that way.
“I’ve got to say, I absolutely love the man,” Corden continued. “Meanwhile, every other bald guy is like, ‘Oh, now you’re into it!'”
Fox Sports posted the clip later that night with the caption: “Tommy Tuchel: England’s Newest Sex Symbol.”
Why Corden is gushing over Tuchel right now
The timing makes sense if you squint. Tuchel has led England to the World Cup semifinals, where they face Argentina on Wednesday at 3 p.m. EST. The man is fresh off a knockout win and currently enjoying the kind of national spotlight that turns even the most plain-looking manager into a heartthrob.
Corden is British himself, born in London. So the hero worship hits different when it’s your own countryman pulling off a deep run at the World Cup.
Tuchel took over as England’s manager in 2025. Before that, he coached Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Bayern Munich. His resume is stacked. But he wasn’t always on this side of the touchline.
He played professional soccer until a knee cartilage injury forced him to retire at 25. After that, he started coaching youth teams at VfB Stuttgart in 2000 and eventually worked his way up through FC Augsburg II, Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund.
Now he’s 90 minutes away from a World Cup final. On the other side of the bracket, Spain just beat France 2-0 to earn their spot. If England gets past Argentina, they’d play for their second-ever World Cup trophy.
And if they win it, expect a lot more saxophone montages. Maybe even a sequel from Corden.
