Arsenal’s Second Bruno Guimaraes Bid Is Coming, but the Real Story Is Newcastle’s Fire Sale

Arsenal just had a £55 million offer for Bruno Guimaraes turned down by Newcastle. That’s not the interesting part. What’s actually happening is that Newcastle is getting picked apart this summer, and the Guimaraes situation is just the loudest example.

The Gunners have already talked to the player’s agent, and a second bid is expected any day now. Sources around the club say they’re not done at one midfielder either. Arsenal also wants Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and is about to sign Leicester teenager Jeremy Monga, who’s been on their radar for a while. That’s three moves in the works, which means Mikel Arteta is clearly trying to reshape the midfield before the season starts.

Newcastle’s roster is basically a buffet right now. Tottenham is closing in on Sandro Tonali for around £85 million — personal terms on a six-year deal are reportedly agreed. Spurs also want Mateus Fernandes for a similar price. So that’s potentially £170 million walking out of St. James’ Park in two players alone.

Manchester United is also circling Tonali and Fernandes but seems to be pivoting to other names: Felix Nmecha, Alex Scott, and Aurelien Tchouameni. United’s midfield situation is a mess, and they’re clearly throwing darts at a board of available talent. Ederson is also finishing his move from Atalanta, so United might be stocking up in the middle of the park more than people realize.

Chelsea is working on two defensive signings. Marco Palestra is already having his medical, and talks for Maxence Lacroix are advancing toward a £47.5 million deal. That’s typical Chelsea — just grabbing young defenders like they’re collecting trading cards.

Liverpool is still in on Yan Diomande, though details are quiet there. And Manchester City is about to announce Elliot Anderson for £116 million, which is a huge number for a guy who hasn’t exactly set the world on fire yet. But City’s scouting department has earned the benefit of the doubt.

The transfer window is moving fast. World Cup schedules are compressing timelines, and clubs are making decisions quicker than usual. Some of these deals will fall apart. Some will double in price before August. But right now, the headline is clear: Newcastle is the team everyone is raiding, and Arsenal is the team doing the most raiding.
