Alabama Lands 4-Star O-Line Prize Over Ohio State and Texas Tech

Alabama football keeps stacking commitments in its 2028 recruiting class, and the latest addition came from a familiar football state. The Crimson Tide landed four-star offensive tackle Anthony Blalock Jr. on Monday, pulling the 6-foot-6, 315-pound prospect out of Ohio and away from a stacked list of offers.

Blalock, who plays for Austintown Fitch High School in Youngstown, announced his decision with Alabama winning out over programs like Ohio State, Texas Tech, Penn State, Kentucky and North Carolina. That’s a serious haul for the Tide, who are now sitting with six pledges in the 2028 cycle.

The big man got his Alabama offer back in June after impressing offensive line coach Adrian Klemm during the Crimson Tide’s summer camp. He came back to Tuscaloosa later for a visit with his agency, and that trip clearly sealed the deal. The staff’s ability to connect with him on a personal level (and show him the vision for his role) did the trick.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Blalock is the No. 12 interior offensive lineman in the country and No. 204 overall. He’s also ranked as high as No. 6 among Ohio prospects. Other services have him even higher — one puts him at No. 125 nationally, No. 8 at his position and No. 4 in the state of Ohio. He’s not just a name on a list. The kid has offers from more than 20 Division I schools, with at least 24 by late June. Indiana, UCLA, Missouri, Louisville, Maryland, Minnesota and Georgia were all in the mix alongside the usual Big Ten and SEC heavyweights.

Blalock becomes Alabama’s first offensive line commit in the 2028 class. That’s notable because the Tide have been reloading across the board. Earlier this month they landed four-star quarterback Kingston Preyear. So adding Blalock means they’ve got two four-star commits in the last week alone.

Current 2028 Alabama Commit List

The class now features quarterbacks Kingston Preyear and Charles Scott Jr., Blalock at offensive line, linebackers Dustin Henry and Ryquan Butler, and cornerback Braylen Gibbs. That’s a balanced group for this early stage of the cycle.

Right now, 247Sports has Alabama sitting at No. 1 in the national team recruiting rankings for 2028. That puts them ahead of Ohio State, Georgia and the rest of the country. It’s early, obviously, but the foundation is there. The Tide aren’t slowing down anytime soon.
