Kylian Mbappe Claps Back at Paraguayan Senator After Racist Attack Following France Win

The 2026 World Cup has been a showcase for Kylian Mbappe’s talent, but it also exposed something ugly off the pitch. After France’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Paraguay in the Round of 16, the aftermath turned nasty — and not just because of the physical play during the match.

Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill and Mbappe had words after the final whistle, with Gill reportedly chucking the ball at the French star. That was bad enough. Then a Paraguayan senator named Celeste Amarilla took to social media and went full racist.

“The brute didn’t even learn to write; instead of mother’s milk, he sucked on coconuts, and the most educated thing he heard were chimpanzees,” Amarilla posted about Mbappe.

Mbappe didn’t let it slide. He fired back on X, calling Amarilla a “despicable woman” and saying she doesn’t speak for Paraguay. “Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup,” Mbappe wrote. “I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world.”

He had a point. Paraguay’s team played their guts out, and Amarilla’s comments shifted the whole conversation away from that. Mbappe also dropped a penalty in the 70th minute to seal the win, sending France to the quarterfinals against Morocco on Thursday.

Mbappe now has seven goals in the tournament, tied with Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland for the Golden Boot lead. He’s been electric, and this kind of off-field distraction isn’t going to slow him down — if anything, it seems to sharpen his focus.

The whole situation is a reminder that even at the world’s biggest sporting event, some people can’t help but bring their garbage into it. Mbappe handled it the way you’d expect: direct, unflinching, and without giving Amarilla any more attention than she deserves.

France vs. Morocco is Thursday. Mbappe will be ready.
