Jimmy Butler’s Agent Breaks Silence on Trade Chatter While Warriors Chase LeBron and AD

Jimmy Butler’s name keeps floating around in trade rumors, but his agent wants everyone to pump the brakes. At least for now.

Bernie Lee, who represents the six-time All-Star, told ESPN that Golden State has stayed true to its word throughout Butler’s recovery from a torn ACL. The agent pushed back against any suggestion that the Warriors are ready to move on from Butler, even as the organization explores blockbuster moves for LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

“The Warriors – from ownership to the front office to the coaches and medical staff – have been resolute in their plan to support Jimmy through his rehab and have him return to form and continue together on a quest to compete for a championship,” Lee said in a statement relayed by Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “That remains true today as I respond to you.”

The Warriors’ Big Three Dreams and What They Mean for Butler

The timing of all this is not an accident. Draymond Green just opted out of his $27.7 million player option, which gives Golden State something it hasn’t had in years: real financial flexibility. According to Shams Charania, the Warriors could now try to trade for Davis and convince James to sign, creating a potential superteam alongside Stephen Curry.

That kind of move would obviously shake up the roster. And Butler, who turns 36 this fall and is coming off a devastating knee injury, becomes the natural question mark. If Golden State lands LeBron, where does that leave Jimmy? The Warriors haven’t publicly committed to a timeline, but Lee’s comments suggest the team has not signaled any intent to deal Butler.

“One of the most difficult elements of dealing with his injury has been the feeling of losing a degree of control,” Lee said. “A tremendous amount of patience is being asked of the other side of this equation, which includes the organization and the fans. That patience will pay off, and Jimmy remains solely focused on the part of this he is responsible for, which is getting back between the four lines and doing his part. Which he will with the Warriors.”

Butler signed a two-year, $112 million extension with the Warriors shortly after arriving in a trade from Miami last season. He played only 17 games before tearing his ACL in April. The injury cost him the playoffs and has kept him sidelined through the start of the offseason.

For now, Golden State’s front office is reportedly working the phones hard. Whether they land James or Davis or neither, Butler’s future with the team will remain a topic of debate until he’s back on the court. Lee’s message was clear: his client has no intention of going anywhere. But in the NBA, intentions only matter until a better offer comes along.
