Shamet Cashes In With Four-Year, $24 Million Deal to Stay a Knick

The New York Knicks just made their first major move of the offseason, and it’s a contract that rewards a player who turned into a folk hero during the team’s championship run.

Landry Shamet is staying in New York. The shooting guard agreed to a four-year, $24 million deal to return to the Knicks, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Shamet’s agent, George S. Langberg of GSL Sports Group, hammered out the long-term commitment with Knicks executives on Monday.

This isn’t just a routine re-signing. Shamet had a growing list of suitors lining up for July 1, but the Knicks moved fast to lock him in before free agency officially opened. The team clearly saw his value both as a bench scorer and as a guy who stepped up when the lights were brightest.

Shamet averaged 9.3 points per game this season, which doesn’t jump off the page. But those numbers improved from his first year with the Knicks in 2024-25, and he became the kind of reliable shooter from deep that every contender needs coming off the bench.

The Finals were where Shamet really made his mark. He torched the San Antonio Spurs with back-to-back 13-point games in Game 1 and Game 2. His scoring dipped after that, combining for just eight points over the next three games. But by then, Jalen Brunson had taken over and carried the scoring load to close out the series.

Still, Shamet’s early production in that series helped set the tone. The Knicks wouldn’t have won that title without him, and fans know it.

The deal also makes sense from a chemistry standpoint. New York is locking in a fan favorite, and not just any fan favorite. Shamet won over longtime Knicks fan John Turturro, which is basically a rite of passage in this city. When you’ve got the actor who played Carmine Falcone calling you a winner, you’ve made it.

Shamet’s role next season should be similar. He’ll come off the bench as a secondary scorer and floor spacer, giving the Knicks a proven shooter who already knows the system. That continuity matters for a team trying to defend a title.

This is the first real domino for New York this summer. More moves are coming, but the Knicks made sure to keep one of their own before the bidding war could even start.
