Ohio State picked up a wide receiver commitment Saturday. But this one is a little different from the typical five-star splash.
Jordan Donahoo, a three-star prospect from Oviedo, Florida, chose the Buckeyes over Cincinnati, Minnesota and Georgia Tech. He’s the second commit in two days for Ohio State’s 2027 class and the first receiver recruit for position coach Cortez Hankton since he joined the staff.
Donahoo didn’t get an offer the normal way. Hankton actually went to his high school twice to watch him work out. The first time, it was pouring rain. That wasn’t an accident — Hankton wanted to see how the kid handled bad conditions. Donahoo kept competing. The second visit came in better weather, and that’s when the offer finally came through.
A Late Push That Changed Everything
Before Ohio State got involved, Donahoo had basically narrowed things down to three schools: Minnesota, Georgia Tech and Cincinnati. The Buckeyes entered late, and that forced him to pump the brakes on his decision. He scheduled an official visit to Columbus for June 19-21.
The visit did what visits are supposed to do. He and his family left feeling like Ohio State was the place. A few weeks later, the commitment was official.
Donahoo isn’t going to turn heads on recruiting rankings. Rivals has him as the No. 1,423 overall prospect and the No. 188 wide receiver in the 2027 class. But the Buckeyes clearly see something in his frame. At 6-4 and 190 pounds, he’s got the kind of length that coaches believe they can develop. He’s raw. The upside is the selling point.
Where the Class Stands Now
With Donahoo on board, Ohio State’s 2027 class now has 17 commitments. As of Saturday, On3 had them ranked fifth nationally. That’s strong, but the staff isn’t done yet at receiver.
Five-star Monshun Sales and four-star Benny Easter are still priority targets. The Buckeyes are looking ahead to 2026 and beyond, knowing they’ll lose some guys to the NFL draft. Building depth at receiver is never a bad idea when you’re Ohio State and you recruit like Ohio State.
Donahoo might not be the headliner in this class. Five-star Jamier Brown is already in the group, and he’s the one who’ll get the attention. But Hankton made a point of going after Donahoo personally. Twice. In the rain. That says something about what the staff thinks he can become.
