Louisville’s 2027 Class Takes Another Hit as Top In-State CB Flips to Vanderbilt

Louisville’s 2027 recruiting class just can’t catch a break. Four-star cornerback Allen Evans IV, a standout from Trinity High School in Louisville, announced Friday he’s flipping his commitment to Vanderbilt. It’s the third decommitment in two weeks for the Cardinals and the fifth overall in this cycle.

Evans had been locked in with Louisville since January 10, when he made his pledge during the Navy All-American Bowl. But Vanderbilt never really went away. The Commodores extended an offer back on April 4, 2025, and kept recruiting him through the process. Evans visited Nashville during the 2025 season, watched Vandy take down LSU, and met with the coaching staff. He made another trip there recently before making the switch official.

The 6-foot-2 defensive back is ranked the No. 76 overall prospect nationally by 247Sports with a 94 rating. The Composite has him at No. 145 overall, No. 2 in Kentucky, with a 0.9388 rating. That made him the ninth-highest-rated commit in Louisville’s modern recruiting history. Rivals slots him as the No. 17 cornerback in the country and No. 121 overall.

A homegrown talent who delivered

Evans originally picked the Cardinals over Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee and a bunch of others. During his junior season at Trinity, he put up 28 tackles and two interceptions without allowing a touchdown in coverage. MaxPreps named him a Second-Team Junior All-American. He helped Trinity go 13-2 and win a third straight Kentucky Class 6A state championship. The guy’s a proven winner at the highest level of high school ball in the state.

A tough stretch for the Cardinals

Louisville’s 2027 class has been bleeding commitments lately. Defensive lineman Kaleb Exume flipped to Boston College. Athlete Brooklyn Maxey switched to Kansas State. Quarterback Jack Sorgi went with Wisconsin. Wide receiver Darion Moseley committed to Arkansas. That’s a lot of turnover in a short window.

The Cardinals still have 16 commitments, including recent adds Dre’Mail Carothers, Kyson Mallard, AJ Tillman Jr., Darrian Tomlin and Keontay Toomer. The class ranks No. 29 nationally in the 247Sports Composite with four four-star pledges still on board. But losing Evans stings, especially since he’s a local kid who could have been a cornerstone for the program.

What this means for Vanderbilt

For the Commodores, this is a big get. Evans becomes their 15th commit in the 2027 class and their third four-star pledge, joining Omarii Sanders and Jasper Ngokwere. He also adds to a defensive back group that includes Levi McKenzie, Matt Williams and Dillon Davis. Vanderbilt has been quietly building something in Nashville, and landing a top in-state talent like this shows they can compete for local recruits even against Power Five programs. Evans likely saw something in that program that made him believe in the future there.
