White Sox’ Miguel Vargas Punches All-Star Game Exclamation Point With 433-Foot Bomb

The 2026 MLB All-Star Game was effectively decided in the first inning, when Cody Bellinger and Ben Rice drove in three runs for the American League. But ask anyone who watched the eighth inning and they’ll tell you: Miguel Vargas put the final stamp on a 4-0 AL win.

Vargas, the Chicago White Sox infielder, crushed a 433-foot home run off former Dodgers teammate Justin Wrobleski. It was a two-run shot that turned a tight lead into a blowout. And for Vargas, the moment carried extra weight.

“I have no words to describe the moment when I was running around the bases. Thinking just about my family, sharing this moment with them, is unbelievable for me,” Vargas said after the game, per MLB Network.

The home run came on a 2-0 count in the eighth. Vargas didn’t try to do too much. He just got a pitch he could handle and let his natural power take over.

A Long Night That Started on the Basepaths

Vargas entered the game in the third inning as a pinch runner for Tampa Bay’s Junior Caminero, who had to leave after getting hit by a pitch. Vargas stayed in and made the most of his All-Star debut.

In the fifth inning, he smoked a line drive off the bat at 104.3 mph. But Dodgers center fielder Andy Pages tracked it down. So Vargas adjusted his approach. He put more lift on the swing the next time up. And it paid off in a big way.

Going Yard Against an Old Buddy

There was a layer of irony here too. Vargas and Wrobleski came up together in the Dodgers system. They know each other’s tendencies. So when Vargas stepped in, he wasn’t guessing.

“I know Wrobleski a little bit, we played in the minor leagues (together). I just tried to make my best swing against him. I know he’s a really good pitcher. I got a good result, I got lucky,” Vargas added.

Maybe it was luck. Or maybe it was a young hitter who’s figuring out how to make adjustments in real time. Either way, the AL went home with a trophy and Vargas went home with a story he’ll tell for a long time.
