Lazio thought they could snag Aaron Wan-Bissaka for a bargain. They were wrong.
According to reports from Claret & Hugh, the Serie A side put in a €10 million bid for the right-back. West Ham didn’t just say no. They apparently laughed at the number and sent Lazio packing.
The Hammers value Wan-Bissaka at roughly double that. And honestly, it makes sense. The 28-year-old just turned in a strong World Cup performance, and he’s under contract through 2031. West Ham might be headed to the Championship after relegation, but that doesn’t mean they’re running a clearance sale.
How we got here
Wan-Bissaka came up through Crystal Palace’s academy, then moved to Manchester United in 2023 for £50 million. That deal didn’t quite work out the way anyone hoped. He joined West Ham later that same year for £15 million and was supposed to be a key piece for the club.
But things went sideways. He had a falling out with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo. The details are fuzzy, but the result is clear: Wan-Bissaka is no longer in the team’s plans. He’s training away from the first group, and everyone knows he’s available.
Still, being on the outs doesn’t mean you give the guy away.
Lazio’s shopping list
Lazio might circle back with a better offer. They clearly see an opening here. Gennaro Gattuso’s squad already has Adam Marusic, Romano Floriani Mussolini and Manuel Lazzari at right-back, but Lazzari is expected to leave. So there’s room for an experienced full-back.
That said, Wan-Bissaka isn’t their top priority. The club is still hunting for a striker and another center-back to pair with Danilho Doekhi. The right-back situation is more of a “if the price is right” kind of deal.
For West Ham, it’s simple math: they paid £15 million for him two years ago, his stock went up after the World Cup, and he’s got five years left on his deal. €10 million doesn’t move the needle. Not even close.
If Lazio wants him, they’ll have to actually pay what he’s worth. Or find another option.
