Crysencio Summerville is fast. Really fast. ‘Dangerously quick,’ one Premier League scout put it. And right now, that speed is the center of a tug-of-war between Manchester United and Tottenham, with West Ham caught in the middle.
United’s summer window was already wobbling. The club pulled out of moves for Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali after Newcastle and Milan set asking prices north of $150 million combined — numbers that INEOS deemed excessive. Then came Mateus Fernandes. West Ham wants $100 million for the 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder. United balked again. PSG and Real Madrid are lurking.
So United pivoted. David Ornstein reported Tuesday that the club had made an inquiry about Summerville, the Dutch winger who terrorized the Championship last season and has carried that form into the Premier League. West Ham values him at roughly $63 million. United thought they had a lane.
They don’t.
According to trusted reporter Ben Jacobs, Tottenham placed a call to West Ham almost immediately after catching wind of United’s interest. Spurs are weighing whether to hijack the move entirely. Jacobs posted on social media: “Manchester United have added Crysencio Summerville to their list of wide options… An enquiry has already been made to West Ham… Spurs have also called West Ham as Summerville is an option in case Savinho doesn’t move.”
That last part is key. Tottenham’s primary target remains Savinho, the Manchester City winger who has already agreed to personal terms with Spurs — for the second summer in a row. The Daily Mail reported that club-to-club talks for a deal worth roughly $76 million are advancing. City has given the green light.
But if that deal stalls — and in this market, nothing is guaranteed — Tottenham now has a ready-made alternative in Summerville. And they’re not shy about letting West Ham know.
For United, this is the kind of headache that defines a fractured window. They need attacking reinforcements. Summerville fits the profile: direct, explosive, still young at 24. But the club has spent the past month getting priced out of targets. If Tottenham swoops in, it’s another name crossed off the list.
West Ham, for their part, are happy to let the bidding play out. Summerville has been a bright spot in an otherwise middling season. If two of the league’s biggest clubs are circling, the price only goes up.
No deal is imminent. But the phone lines are open. And for Manchester United, that might be the worst news of all.
