Tottenham Is Ready to Pay Marcus Rashford’s Full Wages and That Changes Everything

Tottenham Hotspur isn’t just trying to beat Manchester United in the transfer market this summer. They’re trying to embarrass them.

After hijacking United’s pursuit of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, the Lilywhites are now circling one of Old Trafford’s most famous castoffs. Multiple reports indicate Spurs are willing to pay Marcus Rashford’s full £325,000-a-week salary. That’s a massive number. And it might be enough to swing the 28-year-old forward’s decision on where he plays next season.

United has been trying to move Rashford on a permanent deal for months. Barcelona had a £26 million buy option but chose not to trigger it. INEOS wants around £40 million for the Mancunian and would prefer not to sell him to a Premier League rival. But preference and reality don’t always line up.

The club was hoping Bayern Munich or even Galatasaray would step in. Bayern likes the player. They don’t like the wages. That’s been the sticking point with most suitors. Rashford’s salary jumps to £325,000 a week next month. Not many teams want to carry that, even for a player who has shown flashes of brilliance.

But according to The Sun, Tottenham is ready to match those wages in full. That changes the calculus. Rashford has reportedly preferred a move abroad, but if Spurs are the only ones willing to pay what he’s currently making, staying in England suddenly becomes more appealing.

This is the same Spurs team that already tried to hijack United’s move for Fernandes. They matched West Ham’s valuation and threw a bigger wage package at the Portugal international. INEOS was banking on Fernandes wanting to play alongside Bruno Fernandes to get a deal below the Hammers’ asking price. That plan is now up in the air.

And it doesn’t stop there. Reports also have Spurs eyeing West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville, another name on United’s radar. It’s starting to look less like coincidence and more like a pattern.

Whether Tottenham actually pays United’s £40 million asking price is another question. They could try to negotiate down, especially if Rashford pushes for the move. That’s usually how these things work. A player makes noise, the selling club blinks, and a compromise gets reached somewhere in the middle.

For now, United is stuck waiting. They need to offload Rashford’s wages to free up room for other moves. Tottenham knows that. And they’re not exactly hiding their intentions.
