Three Premier League Clubs Make Moves for Juventus Midfielder Khephren Thuram

Khephren Thuram might be the most talked-about midfielder in Europe who still hasn’t moved anywhere. According to reports from Calcio Mercato, Sunderland, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest have all made inquiries about the Juventus and France international. And they’re not alone. Manchester United and Liverpool are listed as admirers too. PSG, Galatasaray, and Fenerbahce are also reportedly in the mix.

Here’s where it gets interesting for Sunderland. They’re heading into their first Europa League campaign this season and haven’t made a single summer signing yet. That’s not panicking anyone at the club yet, mostly because they got some good news recently: Granit Xhaka looks likely to stay despite Chelsea pushing hard for him. That’s a big deal for a team trying to build some continuity.

Sunderland’s careful approach

Florent Ghisolfi, Sunderland’s director of football, pretty much telegraphed their whole summer strategy last month. He said stability is the focus for the rest of the window. Name-dropped Athletic Bilbao as an example of what they’re trying to build. Said last summer was about refreshing the squad, and this time around he’d rather work with what they’ve got. That doesn’t mean they won’t add anyone. It just means they’re not throwing money around.

But Thuram is a Juventus player under contract. And there’s still doubt about his future in Turin. So you can see why Sunderland would at least make a call. Whether they can actually pull it off against clubs with deeper pockets is another question entirely.

Newcastle has cash to spend

Newcastle is in a different spot entirely. They just banked £115 million from selling Elliot Anderson. That’s a lot of financial flexibility. They’ve got the money to make a real run at Thuram if they want to. And they’ve made it clear they’re looking at midfield options this summer. But they’ve also been linked with other names, so it’s not clear yet how serious they are about this one.

Nottingham Forest is the wild card here. They’ve been busy in the market already, but they keep getting mentioned in these midfield rumors. It’s hard to tell if they’re being used as leverage by agents or if there’s genuine interest.
