Seth Jarvis Traded the Stanley Cup for Nerds Gummy Clusters and It Was Perfect

Seth Jarvis had his day with the Stanley Cup last week. And like a lot of guys before him, he couldn’t resist putting food in it.

But instead of the usual champagne or beer, the Carolina Hurricanes forward went straight for the candy aisle. He filled the Cup with Nerds Gummy Clusters. The team posted a photo and video of it on social media, and Jarvis himself called it “ambiance.” Hard to argue with that.

Jarvis is a 24-year-old forward who had a massive season for the Hurricanes. He scored 30 goals for the third straight year, something only five other players in franchise history have done. He’s also one of just four players in team history to hit that mark before turning 25. That’s legit company.

During the playoffs, he was a key piece of Carolina’s run to their second Stanley Cup in club history and their first in 20 years. They beat the Vegas Golden Knights in six games. Jarvis had four goals and seven assists in the postseason, including an overtime winner in Game 2 that evened the series.

So yeah, he earned the right to fill the Cup with whatever he wanted.

The Stanley Cup has seen weirder fillings

This isn’t the first time the Cup has been used as a giant bowl. Players have filled it with ice cream, poutine, pasta, beer, champagne. Nerds Gummy Clusters might actually be one of the more creative choices in recent memory. It’s also fitting for a guy who doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously.

Jarvis did all this while playing through a torn labrum and rotator cuff. He had surgery after the season and his recovery timeline is four to six months. That means he’ll miss the start of Carolina’s title defense this fall. The team hasn’t said exactly when he’ll be back, but it’s probably November or December at the earliest.

For now, though, he’s got a Stanley Cup ring and a trophy that’s probably still sticky from all those gummy clusters. Not a bad summer.
