Ruben Amorim Emerges as Milan’s Top Target After Rangnick Rejects Offer

AC Milan’s search for a new head coach has taken a decisive turn. After Ralf Rangnick turned down the opportunity to return to the San Siro, the club has zeroed in on former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim as its leading candidate, according to multiple reports across Italy.

Why Rangnick’s Refusal Changes Everything

Rangnick, who currently leads the Austrian national team and recently signed a contract extension, was Milan’s preferred choice to overhaul the club’s technical setup. His rejection leaves owner Gerry Cardinale and the front office scrambling for a replacement—not just on the bench, but in the director’s chair as well.

Fans have grown increasingly frustrated with what they see as a lack of clear direction. The club has yet to name a sporting director or finalize a head coach, and summer preparations are already underway.

Amorim Leads the Race—But There’s a Catch

Amorim, who was sacked by Manchester United midway through last season, is reportedly open to returning to management. Milan has offered him a two-year deal worth €3.5 million per season. The Portuguese coach is known for favoring a three-man defense, which could signal a tactical shift for the Rossoneri.

The alternative remains Matthias Jaissle, though the club appears to view Amorim as the stronger candidate after Oliver Glasner’s candidacy lost momentum. The team has not confirmed any of this, but Italian outlets close to the club indicate a decision could come within days.

Juventus, Vlahovic, and a Crucial Meeting

Across Turin, a parallel drama is unfolding. New Juventus director Giovanni Carnevali met with coach Luciano Spalletti in Forte dei Marmi on Monday to outline a plan that includes both financial pruning and roster rebuilding.

According to reports, the club needs to sell before it can buy—but there is one notable exception. Spalletti still believes Dusan Vlahovic can be part of the project, and the two sides may reopen contract talks under certain conditions set by the front office.

“Giovanni, joined by Chiellini, will bring Juventus back to the top. Finally, there’s a clear command chain,” former executive Ariedo Braida told reporters. That comment underscores the belief that Juventus is moving toward a more structured hierarchy after years of instability.

Inter, Napoli, and the Ripple Effects

Inter Milan remains active in the market, with reports linking them to Cambiaso and a potential swap involving Frattesi. Meanwhile, Napoli is exploring a move for Genoa full-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy, while also monitoring Dodo and Khalaili as alternatives.

Further complicating matters, the World Cup debut of several young players has slowed some negotiations, including the potential sale of Jonathan David—a target for multiple top clubs.

Lazio’s Crisis Deepens

Lazio, meanwhile, faces an existential summer. Still under a transfer embargo from last year’s financial troubles, the club must sell before it can sign anyone. Fans have begun protesting, and Gila is reportedly at risk of leaving. The situation has been described by local media as “a nightmare summer,” with no end in sight.

For now, all eyes remain on Milan and Juventus—two sleeping giants trying to wake up before the season starts.
