Rookie’s Historic Night Not Enough as Storm Hit Franchise-Worst 11-Game Skid

Seattle set a new low point for the franchise Monday night. The Storm lost their 11th straight game, falling 112-110 in overtime to the Dallas Wings. That’s the longest losing streak in team history, breaking the old mark of 10 set just last season.

It was a gut-punch finish for a Seattle team that looked ready to snap the skid. The Storm led 94-88 with 84 seconds left in regulation. Then Paige Bueckers caught fire. She scored Dallas’s final eight points of the fourth quarter, knocking down two straight threes to force overtime. The Wings just kept momentum rolling from there.

The Bright Spot Nobody Expected

Lost in the loss was a genuinely historic performance from rookie Dominique Malonga. The 20-year-old center dropped a career-high 37 points and grabbed 12 boards. She also became the youngest player in WNBA history to reach 200 career field goals, hitting that mark at 20 years and 219 days old. That’s not nothing.

Natisha Hiedema added 21 points and 11 assists for Seattle. Awa Fam chipped in 18. But it didn’t matter in the end.

One Record Dallas Didn’t Want Either

The Wings set a WNBA record of their own Monday night with 48 made field goals. Bueckers finished with 27 points and crossed 1,000 for her career in the process — the fourth-fastest player ever to do it. Azzi Fudd added a career-high 26, including the go-ahead layup with 13.2 seconds left in overtime. Jessica Shepard came up with a steal after that, and Dallas held on.

The win pushed the Wings to 11-6. Seattle dropped to 3-15 and is now 0-10 against Western Conference opponents this season. That’s bad math however you slice it.

They get another shot Thursday at home against New York. The Liberty won’t be feeling sorry for anyone.
