Red Sox Outfielder Jarren Duran Shrugs Off Another Heated Exchange With a Fan

The Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees 4-1 on Saturday, their third straight win over their biggest rival. But the score wasn’t the only thing people were talking about after the game.

In the eighth inning, outfielder Jarren Duran got into it with a Yankees fan in the stands at Fenway Park. The fan was eventually escorted out. Duran didn’t want to make it a bigger deal than it already was.

“Nothing happened,” Duran said, repeating himself a few times, according to Tim Healey of the Boston Globe.

First baseman Willson Contreras tried to play peacemaker. He heard what the fan was yelling at Duran and stepped in before things could get worse.

“He was yelling, so I grabbed him to diffuse the situation,” Contreras said.

Interim manager Chad Tracy wasn’t bothered by how Duran handled it. Nobody knows exactly what the fan said, but Tracy thought Duran had every right to stand up for himself.

“Just not,” Tracy said when asked if he was disappointed in Duran.

This isn’t the first time Duran has traded words with fans. He’s got a bit of a reputation for it. But the Red Sox have his back on this one. The team is moving on after the win.

Duran’s Numbers Tell a Complicated Story

Through 75 games in 2026, Duran is hitting .198 with 12 home runs, 38 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. That average is obviously not what Boston wants to see. But he’s on pace for a 20-20 season, which would be his first since his All-Star year in 2024.

That kind of power-speed combo is rare. Even if the batting average is ugly, Duran is still a threat every time he steps in the box. The Red Sox need him to be a force in the middle of the lineup, especially with the season heating up.

It’s a lot easier to ignore a heckler when you’re playing well. Duran knows that. So does everyone else at Fenway.
