Ja Morant to Phoenix? The One Trade That Pushes the Suns Over the Top

The Phoenix Suns just picked up Miles Bridges from Charlotte, and on paper, that’s a solid move. A serviceable forward who can slide right into the starting lineup and take some heat off Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. But let’s be real for a second. Bridges alone doesn’t make this a championship roster. Not in a Western Conference where the Nuggets still exist and the Lakers keep tinkering.

So what’s next? The Suns have been hoarding draft picks and shuffling contracts all offseason. That kind of asset pile usually means one thing: they’re not done shopping. And if you look at the roster, there’s one obvious hole that a bigger move could fill.

They need a real point guard

Devin Booker has been playing out of position for years. He’s good at it, sure. But he’s a natural scorer, not a floor general. Asking him to run the offense every night while also carrying the scoring load is a lot. It works in the regular season. Come playoff time, when defenses tighten up and every possession matters, it’s a different story.

That’s where Ja Morant comes in. The Grizzlies have had him on the trade block since the deadline, according to multiple reports. His value is lower than it used to be, obviously. Off-court issues and injuries have knocked the shine off. Memphis knows they’re not getting a king’s ransom. The Timberwolves were sniffing around but went for LaMelo Ball instead. The Pelicans have been mentioned too, but nobody’s sure what they’re doing with their roster.

So Phoenix could step in and make an offer that actually gets it done.

The price tag might be lower than you think

Trading for Morant means giving something up. Jalen Green is the name that keeps coming up. He’s a young guard with a big contract, and the Suns suddenly have a logjam at that position. With Bradley Beal, Booker, and now Bridges, Green becomes the odd man out. Moving him for Morant reshapes the whole dynamic of the team.

Morant takes the pressure off Booker to be both scorer and playmaker. He can get to his spot whenever he wants. He makes everyone around him better. Defenses have to account for him in a way they don’t for most guys. Pair that with Durant and Booker, and suddenly you’ve got three guys who can create their own shot at any moment. That’s the kind of offense that wins in the postseason, even when the whistle gets tight.

Look, there’s risk here. Morant’s baggage is real. But the Suns are clearly in win-now mode. They traded for Durant. They traded for Beal. They brought in Bridges. At this point, half-measures don’t make sense. If they want to actually compete for a title, they need to go all the way. And that means making the call on Ja Morant.
