Real Madrid’s front office is feeling good right now. Not just the usual cautious optimism that comes with any summer window, but something closer to genuine confidence. According to Mundo Deportivo, the club’s board — a group that’s mostly stayed intact since Florentino Perez first took over in 2000 — believes the pieces are falling into place for both the short and long term.
The board has already signed off on a pretty aggressive shopping list: Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konate, Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella are all in the door. RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is reportedly close behind. And they’re happy with Jose Mourinho coming back for a second run, convinced he’s the guy to coach this remodeled squad into the 2026-27 season.
But they’re not done yet.
The biggest remaining target is Manchester City midfielder Rodri. The Spain international is seen internally as the direct replacement for what Toni Kroos gave that midfield before he retired. The club thinks that spot still needs shoring up, and Rodri is the guy they want. Real Madrid has already made an official approach to City, with a €60 million valuation getting thrown around in conversations. The board is convinced this deal gets done.
Vinicius is the other headline, and they’re not panicking
Vinicius Junior is entering the final year of his current contract, which is usually the kind of thing that makes clubs sweat. But not this one. The board is reportedly confident he’ll sign an extension, even though the numbers are still being negotiated. Vinicius is looking for a raise that would put him above Kylian Mbappe, who currently pulls in more than €23 million a season — that’s about €15 million in base salary and another €8 million annually from his signing bonus. Vinicius is at around €15 million right now and wants a significant bump.
The belief within the club is that Vinicius will eventually lower his demands and accept their offer. The directors think Florentino will once again get it done, the way he tends to in these big negotiations. Nobody’s sweating the deadline yet.
The expectation, as things stand now, is that both Rodri and Vinicius will be in the Real Madrid squad when the 2026-27 season kicks off. That would give Mourinho a midfield built around Rodri and an attack still featuring one of the most dangerous wingers in the world. The board sees that as another big step forward in a project that’s been running for more than two decades.
