Now it’s late July and nobody seems to know what happens next.
Tottenham is the most talked-about destination. Roberto De Zerbi wants the winger and has already brought in Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali this summer. But here’s the thing. Rashford is making £325,000 a week at United. That’s a lot of money for a guy who hasn’t looked like his old self in years. Spurs would have to either match that or get him to take a pay cut, and he apparently isn’t eager to do that.
United would reportedly accept around £30 million for him. That’s not the problem. The wages are. If nobody can make the math work, Rashford might just end up staying another season and trying to win Michael Carrick over. Carrick is said to like him and could reintegrate him. But United’s hierarchy would probably prefer to sell if the right offer comes.
Liverpool and Barcola: Agreed on Terms but Not on Price
Over at Liverpool, they’ve got a different kind of headache. Bradley Barcola wants to join the Reds, according to L’Equipe. The player has agreed to personal terms. That part is done. But PSG wants £140 million for the 23-year-old, and they don’t really want to sell him anyway, especially with Real Madrid closing in on RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande.
Andoni Iraola said a wide player was his top priority this summer. Barcola fits that. But £140 million is a huge number. Liverpool is expected to open talks with PSG soon and try to negotiate the price down. Sky Sports says the Reds will prepare an offer. Whether they can get PSG to budge is another question entirely.
Arsenal was linked to Barcola too, but they’ve got their own issues right now.
Vinicius Jr Isn’t Going Anywhere
Arsenal spent part of the summer dreaming about Vinicius Jr. The Brazil star has one year left on his Real Madrid deal, and the Gunners thought maybe they could pull off something audacious. But according to Sky Sports, Vinicius has made it clear he wants to stay at the Bernabeu and work out a new contract. Real Madrid is confident he’ll sign. AS reports that talks will resume when he gets back from holiday.
Real also just agreed to sign Diomande from Leipzig, which added some fuel to the rumor fire. But the club insists they want Vinicius to extend. The Ballon d’Or snub created an embarrassing scene at the club, but that doesn’t seem to have changed anything about his future.
Chelsea’s Weird Double Dip
And in a move that feels very 2026, Chelsea is closing in on Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson. Xabi Alonso wants veteran leadership. Welbeck is taking a medical. Henderson already agreed to a two-year deal after leaving Brentford. It’s not flashy, but it’s the kind of thing teams do when they need guys who know how to play within a system.
The transfer window is still rolling. Rashford’s wages remain the biggest unresolved puzzle of the lot.
