Paris Saint-Germain has put a massive price tag on Bradley Barcola. According to L’Equipe, the French champions want €150 million for the 23-year-old winger if they eventually let him go this summer.
Here’s the thing though: PSG isn’t actively trying to sell him. Not right now anyway. The club wants to extend Barcola’s contract, which runs through 2028. But those talks are on hold while he’s in America with the French national team at the World Cup. If negotiations stall after the tournament, that’s when a departure becomes a real possibility.
And at that price, we’re only talking about English clubs. L’Equipe specifically names Arsenal and Liverpool as interested parties, with Liverpool getting the extra mention as being particularly keen.
Barcola came up through Lyon’s academy before making the move to Paris a couple years back. He’s developed into a genuine threat on the wing, the kind of player who can beat his man and create chances out of nothing. That’s why PSG set the number so high. They don’t want to lose him, but they’ve also seen what the market can bear for elite young attackers.
The bigger picture at PSG
This could be a monster summer for player sales in Paris. L’Equipe reports the club might bring in around €300 million in total from outgoings. They’ve already moved Gonçalo Ramos and Lee Kang-in for a combined €100 million. Randal Kolo Muani and Ibrahim Mbaye could also be on their way out.
Part of the reason Barcola might become available? PSG is closing in on a deal for RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomandé. The Ivory Coast winger has already agreed on personal terms with the club, and the transfer fee is expected to top €100 million. That’s a lot of money going out, which means some has to come in.
For Arsenal and Liverpool, Barcola makes a lot of sense. Both teams need more punch in wide areas. Liverpool’s attack looks different now than it did a couple years ago, and Arsenal could use another dynamic option to rotate with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. But €150 million is steep. That kind of money buys you a proven superstar, not just a promising one.
Then again, the market for wingers keeps climbing. And Barcola is still only 23. If PSG stands firm on that price and one of the Premier League heavyweights decides to pay it, this could be the biggest transfer of the summer. We’ll know more once the World Cup ends and Barcola’s camp sits down with PSG to figure out his future.
