Mohamed Salah’s Next Move Is Nearly Locked In. Europe Isn’t the Destination.

Mohamed Salah is closing in on a decision about where he’ll play next season. And according to multiple reports, the answer almost certainly won’t involve a European club.

This comes after a tough final year at Liverpool. Salah went from being one of the Premier League’s best players in 2024-25 to a reduced role under Arne Slot in 2025-26. The two reportedly clashed over playing time. And honestly, it’s hard to argue with the manager. Salah’s impact on games had fallen off noticeably. He just wasn’t the same guy who carried the attack for years.

But the World Cup this summer offered a reminder. Salah looked sharper. More like his old self. That probably helped keep his options open as he heads into free agency.

And those options are real. Saudi Pro League clubs have chased him before. Al-Ittihad tried and failed. Now the league itself seems to have a deal in principle ready. The question is which team he’d join, not whether he’s going.

TEAMtalk reports that a move to the Middle East or the United States is now the expectation. Staying in Europe is considered increasingly unlikely. Inter Miami and San Diego FC have both been mentioned as MLS landing spots. But the Saudi route looks more advanced at the moment.

Geography matters here too. Salah is reportedly leaning toward clubs in western Saudi Arabia, closer to Egypt. That’s not a dealbreaker though. Nothing is off the table yet.

Meanwhile, Liverpool is still trying to figure out life without him. Their top replacement target was Yan Diomande. But word is he wants to join Paris Saint-Germain instead. So the search continues.

Salah’s next move will say a lot about where he sees his career heading. A lucrative Saudi deal would make him the face of that league’s push for global attention. MLS would offer a different kind of spotlight, with Messi already drawing crowds in Miami.

Either way, the clock is ticking. Salah has reportedly made his call on staying in Europe. And that call was no.
