Michael Carrick’s Permanent Move at Man United Comes With a Summer Training Timeline

Manchester United just locked in the return date for their squad ahead of next season, and it is July 9. That is when players report to Carrington for the start of preseason training, according to the club’s official statement.

The announcement comes after a wild ride last season. United finished third in the Premier League and clinched a Champions League spot for the first time in two years. That turnaround did not happen under Ruben Amorim though. He was dismissed midseason and Michael Carrick took over on an interim basis.

Carrick changed everything pretty quickly. He installed a more aggressive, forward-thinking style that fans got behind almost immediately. The results speak for themselves. In 17 league games under his watch, United won 12, drew 3 and lost just 2. That run sealed Champions League football with games to spare.

In May the club made it official. Carrick signed a two-year contract as permanent manager. No more interim tag. No more speculation.

Preseason schedule and roster plans

The club confirmed that the first group of players back will mix senior stars with Academy prospects. That is standard for summers when international tournaments push back some guys’ return dates. Brazil’s involvement in the World Cup means new signing Ederson from Atalanta will likely not be in the building until later. The transfer is basically done but the paperwork waits until after Brazil is out of the tournament.

United have six preseason friendlies lined up. No official list of opponents yet but the club says more details are coming soon.

What is interesting is how quickly Carrick got the job permanently after that interim stretch. Two years is not a massive commitment from the club’s side but it signals trust. He took a team that looked lost under Amorim and gave them an identity. Simple but effective passing. High pressing. Players actually seemed to enjoy playing again.

Old Trafford was buzzing again by spring. That is not nothing after two years without Champions League nights.

Now the focus shifts to the summer window. United have already made one move with Ederson. More could come depending on outgoings. The club has not confirmed any other targets but reports suggest a center back and a winger are on the list.

Preseason starts July 9. The real work has already begun.
