Kylian Mbappe is back on the cover of EA Sports’ flagship soccer game. The Real Madrid forward will appear on the Ultimate Edition of EA FC 27, marking his first cover appearance since the series dropped the FIFA branding.
EA Sports made the announcement Monday via social media, with a full reveal scheduled for July 23. Mbappe previously graced the covers of FIFA 21, 22, and 23. That means this is his fourth overall cover spot, but his first on an FC title. His teammate Jude Bellingham and Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala shared the FC 26 cover. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was on the deluxe edition.
The choice isn’t exactly a surprise. Mbappe is coming off a 2026 World Cup where he won the Golden Boot. He’s still widely considered one of the top players on the planet, and at 27 years old, he’s in his prime. His pace, finishing, and dribbling make him a nightmare for defenders and a natural fit for the front of a video game box.
Mbappe’s career arc so far
He started at AS Monaco before moving to Paris Saint-Germain on loan, then permanently. At PSG, he scored 175 goals between 2017 and 2024, won six Ligue 1 titles, and took the club to a Champions League semifinal. He joined Real Madrid in 2024.
Since arriving in Madrid, Mbappe has put up 56 goals in 65 appearances. He hasn’t won La Liga yet with Los Blancos, but that feels like a when, not an if. He also won the 2018 World Cup with France and was a finalist in 2022. At this rate, he’ll have a trophy case that rivals anyone’s by the time he’s done.
The news also means we’re getting closer to the full EA FC 27 rollout. Release date details and gameplay previews are expected soon. Fans online are already speculating about what changes the developers might bring to Career Mode or Ultimate Team. For now, the cover announcement is a nice appetizer.
EA hasn’t confirmed whether Mbappe will also appear on the standard edition cover or if other players will be featured across regional versions. That info will likely come next week.
