Massimiliano Allegri Set to Exit Milan Today Then Sign With Napoli on a Two-Year Deal

Massimiliano Allegri is closing in on a quick pivot from fired AC Milan manager to Napoli’s new head coach. According to Sky Sport Italia, Allegri is expected to terminate his contract with Milan today, which would clear the way for him to sign with Napoli almost immediately.

Allegri was sacked at the end of the 2025-26 season after Milan failed to qualify for the Champions League. But here’s the thing: he was still under contract with the club. So before he could walk into Napoli’s training ground, he needed to negotiate an exit package with Milan’s front office. That process, per multiple reports, should wrap up in the next few hours.

Milan recently reshaped its management structure, which means Allegri is now dealing with a new set of directors. But Sky Sport says both sides expect to shake hands today and formalize the split. Matteo Moretto confirmed the two parties will finalize the termination “in the coming hours.”

Napoli move has been in the works for weeks

This wasn’t a last-minute scramble. Napoli and Allegri reportedly reached an agreement a few weeks ago. Once his Milan contract is officially terminated, Allegri is expected to put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Naples club. No word yet on exact salary figures, but the structure is apparently locked in.

Napoli is banking on Allegri to stabilize things after a turbulent stretch. The team has talent but has lacked consistency. Allegri brings experience — he’s won Serie A titles with both Milan and Juventus — and a reputation for pragmatic, defense-first soccer that sometimes frustrates fans but usually gets results.

From Allegri’s perspective, this is a chance to bounce back quickly. Getting fired stings, but landing another top-tier Serie A job within weeks softens the blow. He’ll inherit a Napoli squad that still has quality pieces and enough budget flexibility to make a few targeted moves this summer.

Milan, meanwhile, is moving on with its new sporting directors. The club is expected to announce a permanent replacement in the coming days, though no front-runner has emerged publicly yet. For now, all eyes are on Allegri and that final handshake with Milan.
