Marcus Rashford to Fenerbahce? The Deal That Makes No Sense Actually Might

Marcus Rashford is currently in the middle of a World Cup semifinal against Argentina. And apparently, his club future is about to get weird again.

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Fenerbahce is preparing to open talks with Manchester United about signing the England forward this summer. This comes after Barcelona decided not to trigger the buy option on his loan deal, even though Rashford played pretty well for them last season. Like, genuinely well. Goals in La Liga. Minutes in the Champions League. The whole thing.

But here’s where it gets complicated. Fenerbahce already locked down Mason Greenwood this summer. So the idea would be reuniting the former United pair in Istanbul, which is either a brilliant chemistry move or a headline generator waiting to happen. Probably both.

Rashford’s situation at United has been messy for a while. He went out on loan because it was clear the relationship had run its course under whoever was managing at the time. But his Barcelona stint reminded people he’s still capable of performing at a top level. Which makes the prospect of him landing in Turkey feel like a step down on paper, but maybe not in practice.

The Turkish Super Lig isn’t what it used to be, sure. But Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Besiktas have all been pulling in legitimate talent. They’re playing European football. The money is there. And for a player who might just need a fresh start where he’s not constantly carrying the weight of being “the Manchester United kid who made it” — it’s not the worst landing spot.

There’s also the question of what United wants. Some fans are already arguing that Rashford’s form at Barcelona should earn him another shot at Old Trafford. But that feels like nostalgia talking. The club has moved on. The system has moved on. And if Rashford is honest with himself, he probably has too.

Nobody has confirmed anything yet. No bids have been formally submitted as of this writing. But if Fenerbahce does make a serious push, Rashford will have a decision to make. Does he wait for another European opportunity? Or does he bet on a project that already has one former United star and a fanbase that would treat him like royalty?

Either way, it’s going to be a busy summer. And right now, the ball is in his court.
