Manchester United’s 2026/27 Schedule Starts with a Trap Game Against Hull City

The Premier League released the full 2026/27 fixture list on Thursday, and Manchester United’s path doesn’t exactly ease them in. Michael Carrick’s side opens the season on the road against newly promoted Hull City on August 22, then hosts Ipswich Town a week later.

It’s not the murderers’ row start some fanbases dread. But playing two teams desperate to prove themselves in the top flight, both of whom will be buzzing for their first home and away games back in the big time? That’s a different kind of pressure. United dropped points against promoted sides last season. They know the drill.

The first Manchester derby lands early — September 12 at Old Trafford, just the fourth match of the campaign. The return leg at the Etihad is scheduled for March 20. That’s a five-month wait for round two, which feels like a lot of time for narratives to shift. If one of these two clubs is chasing the title come spring, that March date could decide a lot.

The Liverpool fixtures are stacked in November and January. United travels to Anfield on November 21, then hosts Liverpool on January 23. Two games, two different contexts. By January, both clubs will have a clear picture of where they stack up in the title race or the top-four fight. Carrick will be hoping the home leg matters more than just pride.

Key stretches and potential pitfalls

December is brutal. United plays six league games: Newcastle away, Coventry City at home, Crystal Palace away, Arsenal away, Nottingham Forest at home, and Sunderland at home — all between December 2 and December 30. That’s the kind of stretch that can make or break a season before the new year even starts. And Arsenal away sandwiched between Palace and Forest? That’s not a forgiving schedule.

February also looks nasty. Chelsea at home, Brighton at home, Nottingham Forest away, Arsenal at home in a three-week span. If United is still alive in multiple competitions by then, squad rotation will be a full-on headache.

The final month brings a mixed bag. April opens with Hull City at home and Ipswich away before a home game against Crystal Palace. May closes the season: Coventry away, Bournemouth away, Leeds United at home, Tottenham away, and Fulham at home. That’s four road games in the last seven, and two of those are against teams that could be scrapping for survival or European spots.

One thing worth noting — and the club has not confirmed any of this — is the usual caveat about TV rescheduling. European commitments could shuffle these dates further. But as it stands, United fans have a clear picture of the road ahead. It starts with a trip to Hull. No room for a slow start.
