Manchester United Want Rashford Gone Before Dublin. That Could Backfire.

Manchester United have a problem they need to solve before August, and his name is Marcus Rashford. The club wants him out before the pre-season training camp in Dublin, according to a report from The Sun. That gives them roughly three weeks to find a permanent buyer for a forward who spent last season on loan at Barcelona, only to have the Spanish club pass on making the deal permanent.

This isn’t just about moving a player. It’s about avoiding a distraction. A unsettled veteran hanging around a locker room during camp can mess with group chemistry. Everyone knows it. United have been here before with other players, and they clearly don’t want to repeat the experience with Rashford.

But here’s the thing. If Barcelona had wanted him, he’d already be gone. They had a £26 million buy option and let it expire. Then they went out and signed Anthony Gordon instead. talkSPORT confirmed that decision, and it left United holding a player they’d rather not have around.

The complication of the World Cup

Rashford is expected to report back to United for the 2026-27 season after the World Cup, according to The Guardian. That sounds like a hedge. A permanent move hasn’t been ruled out, but there’s no clear landing spot right now. And United don’t want another loan. They want this thing settled.

The club is right to push for a quick resolution. A dragged-out saga through the final weeks of the transfer window helps nobody. But there’s a risk in rushing. If buying clubs know United are desperate, they’ll lowball. Rashford still has name recognition. He has experience. He can still play at a high level, even if last season was messy. United should hold some leverage in negotiations.

But if the manager doesn’t see him as part of the plan — and all signs suggest that’s the case — then a clean break is probably best for both sides. Rashford needs regular minutes at a club where he matters. United needs a focused group heading into the season.

The question is whether anyone will meet their price. And if not, whether they’ll take less just to move on.
