Manchester United Want Another West Ham Winger. Summerville’s World Cup Is Making It Complicated.

Crysencio Summerville is having a pretty good summer for a guy whose team just got relegated. Two goals and an assist at the World Cup will do that for your stock. And now Manchester United, among others, is trying to figure out if they can pull him out of West Ham without overpaying.

United already has Mateus Fernandes as their priority midfield target this window. That much is out there. But Fabrizio Romano has reported that the club keeps asking about Summerville too. Not just kicking tires either. They’re making calls.

Premier League or bust for the Dutch winger

Foot Mercato says Paris Saint-Germain is interested. That’s real competition. But the word is that AC Milan and Roma are out of the running. The price tag is the problem. West Ham set it around €50 million at the start of the summer, roughly £43 million, and Summerville’s World Cup performances have only pushed it higher. Only Premier League clubs — United, Arsenal, Tottenham — are realistically in position to match whatever PSG throws down.

The gist: United sees huge potential and believes he is someone who could really take off with better players and coaches around him. But nothing is advanced yet. Here’s the thing about United adding another winger. They’d have to move Marcus Rashford first. That’s not a small detail. Summerville marauding down the left flank is a nice image for fans to daydream about. But the roster math doesn’t work unless Rashford goes somewhere else. And finding a buyer for Rashford at his current wages is its own headache.

Summerville put up 12 goal contributions across all competitions last season for a West Ham team that couldn’t stay up. His teammate Jean-Clair Todibo called him incredible.
