London City Lionesses, the team that spent money this summer like they were trying to win a shopping spree, draw Manchester United at home. That’s September 4 at The Copperjax Community Stadium in Bromley. And for a club that hasn’t exactly been shy about its ambitions, this is the kind of opener that tells you what you’re made of right away.
London City went on a spending spree that had the whole league talking. They brought in high-profile talent, made it clear they aren’t here to just make up the numbers. European qualification is the stated goal. Maybe more. But Manchester United isn’t exactly rolling over either. United’s got their own European dreams and they’ll be happy to spoil the party.
Full Opening Weekend Slate

Saturday September 5, Chelsea hosts Aston Villa. Chelsea is Chelsea. They reload every year. Villa’s been quietly building something decent though. Could be a sneaky tough game for the defending champions.
Sunday September 6 is stacked. Brighton and Hove Albion gets Arsenal at home. That’s a proper test for Arsenal right out of the gate. Meanwhile there’s a London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United. Those games are always chippy regardless of where either club sits in the table.

The other two promoted sides Charlton Athletic and Crystal Palace both get home games too. Charlton hosts Liverpool, Palace gets Everton. Not exactly easy draws for the newcomers but at least they’re playing on familiar ground.

The league didn’t release full kickoff times or TV details yet. That’ll come later. But the WSL is clearly trying to create drama from week one. London City versus Manchester United could be a statement game for either side. United’s been knocking on the door of the top three for a while now. One thing worth watching: how fast can London City’s new pieces actually gel? Throwing money at talent is one thing. Getting them to play together against a team like Manchester United in week one is another matter entirely.
